Cupping
According to traditional Chinese medicine, cupping is a method of creating a vacuum on the patient’s skin to dispel stagnation (stagnant blood and lymph), thereby improving Qi and blood flow. Cupping treats respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia and bronchitis. Cupping also is used on the back, neck, shoulders for musculoskeletal conditions.
Moxabustion
Moxabustion is used to warm regions and acupuncture points[5] with the intention of stimulating circulation through the meridians and inducing a smoother flow of blood and Qi. Moxibustion is especially effective in the treatment of chronic problems, deficiency, and aging. There are several methods of moxibustion. In direct moxibustion, the moxa is placed on the skin and lit. When noticibly warm, it is removed before the skin can burn. Indirect moxibustion is a cigar made of moxa held near the acupuncture point to heat the skin and the heat intensity is controlled. There is also stick-on moxa and smokeless moxa.
